o fidalgo Don Quixote (Fernando Fernan-voz de Gomez) e seu fiel escudeiro Sancho Pança (voz de Antonio Ferrandis).
O mestre diretor Cruz Delgado, premiado com o Prêmio Goya, é refletida na coleção de 36 episódios,
contendo a adaptação mais fiel e cuidadosa da obra imortal de Cervantes.
Na década de 1980, no Brasil foi exibido no programa Clube da Criança na Tv Manchete, nos divertia ao mesmo tempo em que nos trazia uma pouco mais da rica literatura espanhola de Miguel de Cervantes. O desenho era Don Quixote de La Mancha, uma produção de 39 episódios com 26 minutos cada, lançada em 1978. A produção era de José Romagosa, com base no romance "O Engenhoso Nobre Don Quixote de La Macha", publicado por Cervantes em 1605.
Com cenários magnificamente pintados para retratar as terras da Mancha, de Aragão e da Catalunha, repletas de moinhos, tabernas e catedrais, o desenho Don Quixote de La Mancha mostrava as andanças do velho e pobre cavaleiro Don Quixote, que percorria as planícies espanholas com sua armadura surrada e sua lança velha, em cima de um fraco pangaré branco já descarnado, chamado Rocinante. Ao seu lado o barrigudo e fiel escudeiro o ajudava em suas aventuras, tratava-se do empobrecido camponês Sancho Pança, que montava seu burrico Rucio e era acompanhado pelo cachorro magrela Galco.
Acontece que as grandes aventuras de Don Quixote, e o fato de ele ser um corajoso guerreiro eram coisas que existiam apenas em sua imaginação. O pobre andarilho de bigodes compridos nada mais era do que um miserável que havia lido muitos romances de cavalaria e passou a criar um mundo imaginário onde ele figurava como um grande herói. Tratava monges como feiticeiros e lutava com moinhos de vento como se fossem gigantes malfeitores, convencendo-se de que apenas homens destemidos como ele poderiam derrotá-los e, assim, trazer paz e justiça para a Espanha. Don Quixote criava suas aventuras num mundo limitado apenas em sua cabeça e por isso mesmo era considerado um louco.
Neste mundo fantasioso de Don Quixote vivia sua camponesa Aldonza Lorenzo uma moça muito bonita a quem nosso herói conferia o nome de Dulcinea del Toboso, presumida dama da alta nobreza. Entre os amigos de Don Quixote estavam: Pedro Pérez, um inimigo da leitura dos livros de cavalaria e visitante assíduo da casa de Don Quixote; Maese Nicolas, o barbeiro do mundo fantasioso de Don Quixote, ele é amigo e visitante assíduo do engenhoso Hidalgo; e Ventero, dono de uma hospedaria, ele é chamado de Juan Palomeque por Don Quixote, que vive lhe confundindo com um alcaide de uma Fortaleza. Em sua hospedaria trabalha Maritornes uma moça encarregada de servir os hospedes.
No final da série, quando Don Quixote volta para casa, já está bastante cansado. Ele recupera a razão e volta a ser de novo o nobre Alonso Quijano, mas o próprio Sancho Pança, seu oposto no plano imaginário, o anima a partir em busca de novas façanhas heróicas!
Don Quixote de La Mancha foi um desenho que deve ter divertido inúmeras crianças, e ainda hoje mora na memória afetiva de muita gente.
